How will MBCO incorporate a Biblical Worldview into discussions?
The foundation of My Book Club Online is integrating Kingdom
Education principles with a Biblical worldview through the reading of
classic literature. Our MBCO teachers are those who embrace Biblical Worldview integration and implement it across their curriculum. We also strongly encourage the following literature curriculum which supports "the application of biblical thinking to the great themes of literature": Across the Centuries [Teaching Units for Timeless Children's Literature from a Christian Perspective]. It is available online at www.lifeway.org.
What is the time commitment for each book discussion?
Each book discussion will last a total of six weeks. A detailed schedule will be sent to those who request more specific information concerning MBCO discussion groups.
What is the anticipated
amount of time commitment per week?
That depends on how much time a teacher chooses to devote to studying a piece of literature. Responding to the discussion questions posted on the MBCO bulleting board will take only the time needed to type the response. MBCO is meant to supplement a scheduled book study. The time involved directly with MBCO is minimal. However, participating teachers may add to the cooperative study should they choose to do so.
What will be included in the MBCO packet?
The packet will include the following:
-an overview of the book
-about the author
-vocabulary words
-discussion prompts
-writing exercises
-shared project description [Literature Trading Cards]
-schedule with dates
Teachers will also receive contact information for participating schools.
What is the targeted
reading level of the reading selections?
Level 1: K-1st grade
Level 2: 2nd-3rd Grade
Level 3: 4th-6th Grade
Note: Teachers/Parents may determine where to place their students,
depending on their reading ability and social maturity.
It is important
to remember that published reading levels are somewhat subjective. My Book Club Online is
designed to supplement a structured instructional reading program. For
example we have senior girls participating in the Pride and Prejudice
discussion group. MBCO is the perfect example of how technology can
facilitate a multiage learning environment.
How many participants
will there be enrolled in each book club?
At the present time
we are capping each discussion group at 3 classrooms.
What is the cost to participate?
All costs for the coming year have been underwritten by the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools (sbacs.org). A nominal fee may be charged in the future, however we are actively seeking sponsorships and grant monies in order to be able to offer MBCO free in the future.
How long will
the book club run?
Each club will run 6 weeks including introduction and assessment.
